Flu Season Tips to help protect you.

Flu season typically peaks

during January and February according to U.S. Department
Of Health and Human Services.
You can help protect against winter colds and Influenza

by following these basic tips...

Now's the time to boost your immune system to optimum levels
to fight colds and flu, speed up recovery and easing symptoms.

These are the main reasons many people get winter colds and flu:
1) We're indoors with other people while windows and doors are tightly closed.

2) The viruses causing most respiratory infections are continually mutating.
Our immune systems have difficulty responding to these ever-changing germs.

3) Viruses typically survive on non-porous surfaces for hours. For example, If
you turn a door handle recently touched by a sick person, then inadvertently lift
your hand to your nose, you've infected yourself.

4) Respiratory viruses, especially Influenza, become airborne when someone
coughs. You only need to inhale a very small amount of the airborne virus to
become sick. Common symptoms include runny nose, sneezing, sore throat
and cough.

Flu (Influenza) is not as common as colds. The two main types of Influenza
viruses "A " and "B" cause most cases of the flu. The Influenza viruses spread
in the air and direct contact. Flu symptoms are usually debilitating, characterized
by sudden onset of chills, fever and muscle aches.

Keep Drinking Warm Liquids Including Herbal Teas and Soup Broths
When you come down with a cold or the flu, your respiratory system works hard
to expel the invading viruses via mucus. Rather than drying those mucus secretions
with OTC antihistamines, it's better to accelerate the healing process by thinning
them and making it easier to expel them. The best way to thin mucus secretions
is to add water to your system by drinking warm liquids, especially herbal teas and clear soup broth.

Take a hot, steam shower, inhale through your nose if you're stuffy, or through your mouth for chest congestion. Include aromatherapy by use decongesting, anti-
microbial herb extracts including eucalyptus, thyme, rosemary or peppermint
leaves. A warm bath can relax aching muscles and ease chills. add five to
eight drops of plant essential oils For muscle aches, try juniper and ginger.

Supplementing Vitamins, Minerals and Herbs
Some people who use Vitamin C users report reduced duration and severity of
cold symptoms, indicating that it plays a role in respiratory defense mechanisms. Typical daily doses are 500 to1000 milligrams a day. Eating Vitamin C-rich foods,
such as peppers, blueberries, citrus fruits, strawberries and leafy green vegetables provide good benefits.

Natural Nutritional Remedies for Colds and Flu
Certain herbs are beneficial to help decrease the severity of colds and flu
while aiding your body's healing process.

Echinacea is the most-researched herb for enhancing immune defenses and
to help prevent respiratory tract infections. Several studies support the use of Echinacea for the treatment of viral upper respiratory infections. The American Botanical Council noted recent studies concluding that Echinacea helped reduce
the duration and incidence of the common cold.

Most experts say that when an Echinacea is taken in adequate and frequent doses
at the onset of symptoms, it can shorten the duration and severity of a cold. Based
on new research, it may also be helpful to start echinacea if you've been exposed to someone with a cold and should be taken every two hours while symptoms persist.

Sambucus is better than Elderberry, a traditional European tea brewed with elder flowers and peppermint leaves. However, scientific research has focused specifically on the berry from the black elderberry tree (Sambucus nigra). The extract of
Sambucus black elderberries produces beneficial immune actions and helps fight influenza and other respiratory viruses. Several studies have demonstrated rapid recovery from influenza with Sambucus extract

Ginseng including either Eleuthero Asian ginseng (Panax ginseng), American
ginseng (P. quinquefolius) and eleuthero (Siberian ginseng or Eleutherococcus
senticosus) all have been reported useful in fighting respiratory viruses. Such
immune enhancing herbs especially helpful for elderly people. Ginseng is
one of the most recommended cold and flu remedies by herbal experts.

Licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) also has many properties that can relieve
cold and flu symptoms. It acts as a mild anti-inflammatory, demulcent (soothing
to sore throats), antispasmodic (to relax coughs) and expectorant to expel
respiratory mucus. Herbalists recommend not to take licorice for more than
four to six weeks. It causes kidneys to retain water and sodium while losing
potassium. Don't take it at all if you're pregnant, have high blood pressure or
low blood potassium.

Vitamin C helps promote a healthy immune system,
also beneficial vitamin D, beta carotene. Be sure to replenish key minerals:
potassium, zinc
and selenium.

Healthy lifestyle factors influence your immune function...To avoid getting sick, eat healthy foods. Be sure to emphasize whole grains,
fruits and vegetables in your diet.

Try to sleep at least eight hours a night. Wash your hands often, and sneeze
into your arm, not your hands. Avoid exposure to cigarette smoke, which delays respiratory defenses, and only drink alcohol to a minimum because excessive
amounts affect immunity. Exercise regularly, but moderately. If you come down
with a cold, light exercise is beneficial and can help clear respiratory mucus.
If you have a fever, be sure to rest.

The Truth about Antacids

Protecting Yourself from Products that Do Away with Stomach Acid

by Lisa Everett, Pharmacist, RPh., CCN

Contrary to popular belief, heartburn is a stomach result of too little stomach acid, rather than too much. As we get older, ours begin to lose their ability to produce stomach acid. When there's not enough stomach acid, the undigested food begins to putrefy and ferment, causing gas, bloating and back pressure, which pushes the stomach contents back up into the esophagus. We experience the pain and erosion from this process as heartburn, or acid reflux (GERD.)

For overall health, an acid stomach is a vital line of defense in the immune system-many pathogens cannot live in a 2.2-pH environment, the pH of a healthy stomach. Having a stomach pH of 2.2 is the only way we can digest proteins and minerals. Americans with gastric problems and heartburn often have a stomach pH of 6, allowing pathogens to thrive. Antacids were developed for short-term "treatment" of peptic ulcers and GERD.

First, there were the old-time antacids over the counter such as bicarbonate of soda, Tums®, Rolaids®, Mylanta® and Maalox®. Now you can choose from several generations of prescription and over the counter drugs such as Tagamet®, Zantac®, Pepcid®, Axid®, Prilosec®, Protonix®, Prevacid®, Aciphex®, and Nexium®. Here's the theory behind the use of antacids: stomach acid causes heartburn and its repercussions; therefore eliminating stomach acid eliminates the disease. Antacids can instantly provide short-term relief from pain. But long term, they do not "cure" gastric issues (as evidenced by so many people taking them for years) and they have serious long-term consequences.

Even the manufacturers' literature cites a long list of side effects including:

* Nausea, constipation, flatulence, diarrhea, bloating and abdominal pain

* Arthritis and joint pain

* Muscle disease

* Skin rashes

* Decreased absorption of Vitamin B12 and other nutrients

* Hypergastrinemia-occurs in 5-10% of longterm drugs users. This increases the risk of forming gastro intestinal tract tumors.

* Headache, drowsiness and fatigue

* Confusion delirium, hallucination, blurred speech

* Some men develop breasts and women can develop leaking breasts

* Reduced sperm count and impotence in men, and birth defects

* Cell changes in the lining of the stomach

* Nerve pain

* Chest pain (angina) and serious cardiovascular events

* Kidney disease

* Stomach and duodenal cancer

* Severe hepatic disease

* Neutropenia, blood dyscrasias and reduced platelet count C

Consequences of Long Term Antacid Use

In their antacid literature, the pharmaceutical industry does not include long-term physiological consequences, such as: Malnutrition - By disrupting the normal digestive process with antacids, we cannot utilize the vitamins and proteins that depend on acid for digestion and absorption. This can lead to various forms of malnutrition, osteoporosis, cardiac arrhythmia's and other degenerative diseases.

Compromising Digestive Enzyme Activity - We need stomach acid to predigest foods so the intestinal enzymes can finish the digestive process. Stomach acid stimulates the production of enzymes. Without enough enzymes, our food does not break down.

Susceptibility to Disease - The environment is filled with toxins, bacteria, fungus and viruses, which we accidentally ingest every day. Fortunately, our super-hero stomach acids usually render these pathogens and toxins harmless. But when our acids or enzymes are compromised or diminished, unwelcome bacteria and viruses can flourish. The invasion of toxins, bacteria and viruses has a direct effect on the stomach, bowel, and colon, causing Irritable Bowel Syndrome, peptic ulcers and heartburn (leading to more antacid use!), diarrhea and cramping, ulcerative colitis, and GI cancers.

Increased Allergies and Allergic Reactions - Antacids also make us more susceptible to allergens, allergic reactions, and autoimmune diseases. Without stomach acids, proteins are not broken down into amino acids. The digestive tract is designed to absorb amino acids that are from digested proteins-not whole proteins themselves. The immune system recognizes whole proteins absorbed intact as pathogenic substances and mounts an attack that can actually include some part of our natural body-an autoimmune-type response.

Increased Risks of All Types of Cancers - Without stomach acid and enough enzymes, carcinogenic toxins can build up. These toxins sit in the GI tract and cause disruptive changes in cells. The results are polyp formation and cancer of the esophagus, colon, intestines and stomach. The carcinogens are also absorbed and carried to other parts of the body increasing the risk of breast, pancreatic, brain, liver and other forms of cancer.

Interactions between Antacids and Drugs - As a pharmacist, I see the effects of people taking antacids with other medications (an often ignored drug interaction). Antacids have many drug interactions including anti-anxiety medications, anti-depressants, sleeping pills, blood thinners, anti-fungal agents, antihistamines, painkillers and some antibiotics. In addition to drug interactions, another phenomenon is taking place. Drug manufacturers and physicians assume that people who take their medications have properly functioning digestive systems. The healthy digestive system is as metabolism of all medications. Many people don't have properly functioning digestive systems, especially if they are taking products like Prilosec! Therefore, they experience daily changes in blood levels with many drugs. This can lead to under dosing, overdosing and more drug interactions.

There is a SAFE ALTERNATIVE!

I suffered with heartburn and acid reflux for years. I've tried it all and nothing totally eradicated the problem. It wasn't until I followed the advice of Tracy Belcastro and Judy Hannan, founders of ENC that I can gladly say... My heartburn and acid reflux are GONE!

You can listen to the rest of the story and learn how you and everyone you know can put an end to heartburn, acid reflux and all the dangers they cause.

20 Tips For Deliciously Satisfying Dietary Fat-Burning and Healthy Weight Maintenance

20 Tips For Deliciously Satisfying Dietary Fat-Burning and Healthy Weight Maintenance.

1. Eat Fatty Fish As Often As Possible... Omega-3 fatty acids present in fish oil are
known to promote fat loss. Examples of oily
fish rich in Omega 3 fatty acids include:
salmon, halibut, trout, mackerel, as well as sardines, herring and anchovies. Fish-oil supplements containing Omega-3 fatty acids
are also highly beneficial.

For the impressive fat-burning results,
take 1000 mg to 2000 mg of Omega-3
fish oil supplements at each meal...
breakfast, lunch and dinner.

2. Eat Whole Grains For Your Carb Intake... When you want to consume carbohydrates,
be sure to choose slow-digesting whole grains including: brown rice, oatmeal, and whole-wheat bread to keep insulin levels low and at steady levels; The objective is to prevent insulin spikes from stopping fat burning (metabolism) and preventing increased fat storage.

A study conducted by researcher scientists at Pennsylvania State University found that men
or women following a low-calorie diet with carbohydrates originating from whole grains
lost significantly more abdominal fat than those following a low-calorie diet with carbohydrates from typically refined sources.

3. Eat Beneficial Citrus Fruits, Especially Grapefruit... A study from the Scripps Clinic (San Diego) reported that men who ate fresh grapefruit or
drank at least 8 ounces of grapefruit juice three times a day lost an average of 4 pounds in only
three months, even without changing their diet.

Grapefruit's ability to lower insulin levels,
thus limiting fat storage is highly beneficial in
the battle of the bulge. Experts suggest regularly including fresh grapefruit or pure-squeezed grapefruit juice to your dietary regimen.

4. Eggs Are Highly Beneficial... Eggs are packed with high-quality protein
and have been shown to promote muscle
strength and mass. Research shows that people consuming eggs for breakfast actually eat
fewer calories throughout the day, while
also losing significantly more body fat.

Eat eggs for breakfast daily, either scrambling
three whole eggs or three egg whites, using
olive oil instead of butter. Jazz it up with
fresh tomatoes, basil, peppers, onions, etc.

5. Only Eat Certain
Oils, Fats... Certain fats (primarily Omega-3s, Omega
6's) do not lead to fat gain and can actually help promote efficient
fat loss. Keep fat intake at 30% of total daily calories by choosing
healthy fatty fish such as salmon, sardines, cod or trout, as well as other
healthy fat sources such as olive oil, peanut butter, avocados, almonds
and walnuts. Although it appears contradictory, eating specific fat to
lose fat is one of the keys to long-term success. You can actually
improve fat loss when compared with people following a low-fat
diet.

6. Dairy and Milk Are Beneficial In The Right Amounts Too...
Dairy products are rich sources of
calcium, which can help stimulate fat loss, especially around the
crucial abdominal areas. This natural fat-reducing effect is
believedto be due to the fact that calcium regulates the hormone
calcitriol. Since calcitrol causes the body to produce fat and inhibit
fat burning, it's important to minimize its actions. When calcium
levels are adequate, calcitriol and fat production are suppressed while fat
metabolism is enhanced. Including low-fat cottage cheese, low-fat milk and
plain yogurt to your diet are deliciously satisfying ways to increase
healthy protein intake and assist fat loss.

7. High Protein Intake Also
Improves Fat Loss... A high-protein diet not only promotes
muscle growth (hypertrophy) but also enhances your desired fat loss.
Research scientists at Skidmore College found that men who regularly
followed a sensiblehigh-protein diet of legumes, fish, poultry(40% of
total daily calories from protein) for eight weeks lost more body fat than
those following a low-fat, high-carb diet. One reason nutrition
researchers believe consuming more protein works so well is because it
boosts the body's own peptide YY levels, a naturally-occurring hormone
that has the ability to decrease hunger pangs.

8. Include Collagen or Whey Protein.

Here is The Whey Protein I use: http://www.entreneteam.com/absolutenm/templates/entrenetarticle.aspx?articleid=16&zoneid=2&i=33817

For Achieving Lean
Muscle... Consuming collagen or whey protein as a
between meal snack or as a supplement is a healthy way to enhance lean muscle
growth and boost fat loss. U.K. research scientists found that when subjects
consumed whey protein (supplement or shake) 90 minutes before eating a
buffet-style meal, they ate much less food at the buffet.
Researchers reported that this beneficial effect was due to
protein's unique ability to boost levels of the hunger diminishing
hormones known as cholecystokinin and glucagonlike peptide-1.

9. Soy Protein Is Also Beneficial
To Fighting Fat Naturally... Soy protein is also a proven fat burner. In
fact, a recent University of Alabama study found that men drinking 20
grams of soy protein daily for three months, lost a significant amount
of abdominal fat.The beneficial effect of soy is believed to be due
to it's ability to decrease hunger levels and helpkeep those "tempting"
hunger pangs in check..

10.Choose Organic Foods Whenever You Can...

Which I know that can be Hard. So I drink this: http://www.entreneteam.com/absolutenm/templates/entrenetarticle.aspx?articleid=217&zoneid=6&i=33817

Many nutritional healthcare and dietary experts believe organic vegetables, fruit, beef, poultry and dairy are worth the extra cost.
U.K. research shows that organic milk contains nearly 70%
more omega-3 fatty acids than regular milk; A study published in the
Journal of Dairy Science found that grass-fed cows produced milk containing 500%
more conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) than cows who ate grain. It's
well-established that omega-3s and CLAcan both assist fat loss as well as
helping to gain muscle. It makes good health sense to choose organic
cheese, cottage cheese, milk, and yogurt as well as organic poultry and
grass-fed beef whenever possible.

11. Include An Apple (or more)
Every Day...
Apples are a satisfying, slow-digesting
carbohydrate source with naturally-occurring, protective antioxidants.
Apple-derived compounds (known as apple polyphenols) have been found to
promote muscle strength, endurance and critical fat loss around the abs.
Apple polyphenols improve the body's own ability to burn fat while
limiting fat production and storage. The boost in endurance and strength
is very beneficial as well, enabling longer and more effective physical
training with improved performance. An apple typically provides about
200 mg of apple polyphenols along with about 30 grams of energy-boosting
carbohydrates.

12. Certain Nuts Are
Beneficial... Deliciously
Satisfying... Go Nuts! Be sure to
include healthy nuts
including almonds, Brazil nuts,
macadamia nuts, and walnuts in
your regular diet. A study from
Loma Linda University, California reported that people following a low-calorie,
higher-fat diet (40% of total calories from fat) with the majority of fat
coming from almonds, lost significantly more body fat and abdominal fat
in a 24 week period than those consuming the same amount of calories, but
with more carbohydrates and less fat.

13. Green Tea Is
Especially Valuable... Epigal-locatechin gallate (EGCG) a
natural ingredient in green tea inhibits the enzyme that normally breaks
down the neuro-hormone known as norepinephrine. Norepinephrine helps keep
the metabolic rate elevated; That's why preventing its breakdown helps
burn more calories throughout the day.Drinking green tea is a
healthy way to keep properly hydrated during workouts. According to a new
study in the Journal of Nutrition, people drinking green tea while
exercising lost significantly more abdominal fat than those drinking
other beverages.

14. Boost EGCG
Levels with Green Tea Extract Daily...
The majority of studies demonstrating the effectiveness
of green tea for fat loss have used green tea extract. One study confirmed that
the EGCG from the extract was absorbed better than the EGCG from the
tea.Consider taking green tea extract supplements in the morning and
afternoon before meals.

15. Get Energized With Caffeine And Green Tea Beverages...
Some energy-type drinks have been shown to
boost fat loss. Recently, University of Oklahoma researchers reported that
when 60 male and female subjects consumed a diet energy drink containing 200
mg of caffeine and 250 mg of EGCG from green tea extract for 28 days, they
lost more than a pound of body fat, even without changing their diets or
exercise habits. Combined with proper daily aerobic exercise and the
dietary guidelines we're recommending for enhancing fat metabolism, the
results will be even better!

I use Momentum Grande To get Me Energized and Boost my Metabolism: http://www.jeremyhawkins.net/momentum Love how this stuff makes me FEEL!!!

16. Black Tea Is Beneficial
Because Of Its High Polyphenol Levels... Green, oolong, and black teas all come
from the same plant, but different processing causes black and oolong teas
to lose their green color and turn either brown or black. Oolong tea
has been shown to enhance metabolic rate due to its high level of polyphenols as
well as EGCG. Black tea is also a beneficial aid to fat loss; Researchers from
University College London found that drinking black tea regularly can reduce
levels of cortisol, a stress hormone that encourages fat storage particularly
around the midsection.

17. You Can Boost Your
Metabolic Rate By Drinking Cold Water...
Researchers in Germany have shown that
drinking about 2 glasses of cold water can temporarily boost metabolic rate
by about 30%. This beneficial effect appears to be primarily due to
an increase in norepinephrine in the body, stimulated by regular intake of
cold water. Healthcare experts often advise people to drink a large
glass of cold water upon waking in the morning, because it helps get your
metabolism shifted out of the restful "slumber" state it's been in
overnight.

18. Stay Away From Diet Soda
And Artificial Sweeteners... Although artificially sweetened drinks
are calorie free, drinking too many can actually hinder fat loss.
Popular beverages such as diet soda contain chemicals and artificial sweeteners
which interfere with the brain's ability to regulate calorie intake. The result
causes a person to feel hungrier than normal, and ultimately eating more
total calories.Continued research suggests that the sweet taste of
these drinks can increase the release of insulin, which can hinder fat burning
and increase fat storage. Do your body and mind a big favor... Drink
only unsweetened beverages.

19. Add Some Avocados
To Your Diet Too... Avocados are naturally-rich with
healthier monounsaturated fat, which isn't usually stored as body fat. They
also contain a key compound called mannoheptulose, a sugar that curbs
insulin release and enhances calcium absorption. Keeping insulin low and
getting plenty of calcium is critical for encouraging fat loss.By
simply adding a quarter or a half of an avocado to salads and sandwiches,
the body's fat metabolism efficiency is greatly improved.

20. Crank Up Calorie Burning With Healthy Chili
Peppers... Hot peppers contain the active ingredient
capsaicin; This naturally-occurring chemical from peppers has been shown to
promote calorie burning at rest, as well as helping to reduce hunger and
food intake. Its effects are even more effective when combined with
caffeine. Research shows that the capsicasin and caffeine can significantly
boost fat burning during exercise. Try adding crushed red pepper,
tasty chili peppers or hot pepper sauce to meals to burn off extra
calories and fat. Botanically, most cultivated peppers today are
Capsicum annuum (most common), also "C.
frutescens" (tabasco), "C. chinense" (habanero) or
a combination of different species.
If you difficulty eating the
heat-generating peppers, consider taking a Cayenne supplement Capsule that
contains active capsaicin instead.

Another Great GONE Testimony

Another Great GONE Testimony from one of our members in KS

Our friend Mike in KS, is one of our members in Entrenet, the Company that offers the Gone supplement that gets rid of inflammation which in turn relieves PAIN. Mike is a BIG TIME Bowler, and he was telling a lady and her Husband that he bowls with about Gone, and she agreed to try it.... below is her awesome testimony after taking the product!!

"I gave her the pills Saturday morning. She came to bowling alley yesterday morning (MONDAY). She was almost in tears she was so happy. Told her husband wanted to go running around she felt so good. Told me she wants to start going to gym exercising again,( which I advised her against for a couple of weeks).

Then she said was ordering her husband a bottle for his knees, he's having pain, when he bowls.

This was her problem.... A year ago she had back fusion (10 inch titanium rod fused in spine) since then constant pain so severe, her husband has to tie her shoes and help her get them on and off. Shes only 60 years old. She hurt all the time. Told me she didn't realize how good it felt, without constant pain..."

P.S. Mike also told us he is using the Momentum Grande "BIG MO" product and he says he LOVES it. BUT, do NOT take 2 capsules like he did the 1st time he took it LOL. He said it is "smooth" ENERGY and it is definitely CUTTING his APPETITE!, So, if you haven't yet, take a look at it as well.

COFFEE - 4 Tricks to Make it Super-Healthy

by Mike Geary, Certified Nutrition Specialist, Certified Personal Trainer
Author of best-seller: The Truth About Six Pack Abs

Mmm, coffee... almost everybody drinks it... some people have 3-4 cups per day or more.

But most people don't think of it as a "health drink". And it's certainly NOT healthy the way most people make it with loads of added sugar or artificial sweeteners and artificial creamers.

But I'll give you my tips here on how I make a healthier cup of coffee and what to watch out for...

First, you may have seen debate in the past about how coffee has some compounds in it that could have negative health effects such as some tars or other possibly inflammatory compounds in brewed coffee. But, the good news is that coffee has such high concentrations of beneficial antioxidants, phenolic nutrients, chlorogenic acids, and other healthy compounds, that it more than counteracts any bad compounds.

In fact, coffee provides the biggest source of antioxidants for most Americans. Although a lot of that has to do with the fact that many Americans don't get enough antioxidants from fruits and veggies, so coffee ends up being their biggest source. You should try to diversify your sources of antioxidants from fruits, veggies, spices, berries, beans, unsweetened organic cocoa, teas, and yes, even coffee if you like it.

So what's the best way to make a healthy cup of coffee? Well, here's my 4 most important tricks to maximize the benefits of coffee and minimize the negatives:

1. First of all, you need to AVOID adding any refined sugar or harmful artificial sweeteners. What I do instead is use either a very small touch of organic maple syrup or a half packet of natural stevia to just lightly sweeten my coffee. If you like your coffee black with no sweetener at all, that's the healthiest way.

If you're getting your coffee at a coffee shop, make sure to avoid all of those fancy specialty coffees (sweetened flavored lattes, frappuccinos, etc) as they are almost ALWAYS loaded with extra sugars or artificial sweeteners. Some of those fancy coffee drinks at Starbucks or other coffee shops can have 300-400 calories in just one coffee! Definitely not good for your body or your blood sugar or insulin levels.

A latte or cappucino can be okay as long as you make sure to ask for it unsweetened, and then use your own stevia if you need a light sweet taste.

2. You also should try to AVOID at all costs any of those crappy artificial creamers (liquid or powder), which are usually made with corn syrup solids and hydrogenated oils (harmful trans fats). Instead, use a little bit of REAL full-fat cream (organic grass-fed if you can find it, as the CLA in grass-fed cream is very healthy).

Or, better yet, what I've been using for a while now is coconut milk/cream as one of the healthiest creamer alternatives. I get this by buying cans of organic coconut milk, and then after opening the can (shake the can well before opening), I store the coconut milk in the fridge in a container. Note that the cans of coconut milk are much creamier and better as a coffee creamer than those cartons of "coconut milk drink" which are just watered down coconut milk.

The thick creamy coconut milk is the healthiest option for coffee creamer because it's loaded with super healthy saturated fats called medium chain triglycerides (MCTs), which are known to boost your immune system and your metabolism! Plus, coconut milk in coffee is just plain delicious! It's the best healthy creamer option by far.

When people visit my house and we make a pot of coffee, I'll have them try the coconut milk/cream in their coffee and almost everyone always comments how much they love it!

3. If you want to load your coffee up with more healthy antioxidants and good taste, consider trying some added cinnamon to your coffee (cinnamon can help control blood sugar and has many other health benefits). It's also really tasty in coffee!

I also sometimes like to add a teaspoon of organic cocoa powder (non-sweetened) to my coffee to make my own sort of mocha coffee (but without the loads of sugar in a typical mocha you'd get at the coffee shop). The added cocoa powder also gives you great taste and a good dose of extra healthy antioxidants (and cocoa is also known for helping to lower blood pressure!)

I see people that drink 3-4 cups per day that get a massive headache if they don't have their daily coffee due to caffeine withdrawal. Instead try drinking various teas like green, oolong, black, and white teas most other days, which are much lower in caffeine.

4. Drink Coffee with Ganoderma More commonly known as reishi, ganoderma is a hard, bitter mushroom used to promote health and longevity in traditional Chinese medicine. Proponents claim that ganoderma can relieve fatigue, keep cholesterol in check, curb high blood pressure, tame inflammation, build stamina, and support the immune system.

But despite the caffeine content, there is loads of data that show the high antioxidant levels and health benefits to coffee. If you love coffee, feel free to share this article below with your coffee-loving friends and family.

What is Ganoderma and How Does it Make Your Coffee Healthy?

Ganoderma Lucidum is the scientific name for a species of Red Mushrooms that is said to be more powerful than Ginseng.

Asian medicinal arts highly revered this mushroom as sacred. It is known as the "Miraculous King of the Herbs" and is known is Lingzhi in China, Reishi in Japan, and Youngchi in Korea.

For centuries, traditional healers have classified the red Reishi as superior in its ability to heal and its flexible application. Ganoderma has shown to have the ability to help and strengthen the body function more effectively and efficiently. Superior herbs are non-toxic and can be consumed in large quantities and for a long period without any side effects. According to Google, after 2000 years there are still no side effects reported in available literature and clinical studies.

Fortunately for avid coffee drinkers, ganoderma lucidum can now be found in beverage products such as tea and coffee.

A key benefit to Ganoderma (reishi) is the alkalinity. Ganoderma contains a very high concentration of Alkaloids, which promote alkalinity in the body and reduces the front end acidity of the coffee which is a problem for many coffee drinkers. Approximately 10% experience stomach upset or uncomfortable side effects such as heartburn from coffee - even decaf! Coffee giant Folgers estimates that there is a market of 35 to 40 million Americans who say they have cut back on drinking coffee or eliminated it because of this discomfort. For most coffee drinkers who experience these side effects, the reason is due to the acidity in coffee.

There is substantial scientific evidence of the health benefits of Ganoderma lucidum (reishi) this Asian "Miraculous King of the Herbs" has attracted quite a bit of attention from the media as well as health-conscious individuals in the United States over the past couple of years.

Some of the therapeutic attributes include:

* Immune Enhancing

* Oxygen Enriching

* Free radical scavenging

* Analgesic promoting

* Heavy metal detoxing

* Fatigue reducing

* Performance improving

Coffee drinkers have an opportunity to replace their multiple daily cups of unhealthy coffee with an enriched coffee that not only provides the powerful benefits of ganoderma lucidum, but also provides over 100 anti-oxidants and 200 phytonutrients. http://www.jeremyhawkins.net

Control of Sugar Intake Is Essential to Ease Public Health Burden, Experts Urge

Control of Sugar Intake Is Essential to Ease Public Health Burden, Experts Urge

Dangerous Sugar Consumption
Sugar should be controlled like alcohol and tobacco to protect public health, according to a team of UCSF researchers...

They maintain in a new report that sugar is fueling a global obesity pandemic, contributing to 35 million deaths annually worldwide from non- communicable diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

Non-communicable diseases now pose a greater health burden worldwide than infectious diseases, according to the United Nations. In the United States, 75 percent of health care dollars are spent treating these diseases and their associated disabilities.

In the Feb. 2 issue of Nature, researchers at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF),
argue that sugar's potential for abuse, coupled
with its toxicity and pervasiveness in the Western
diet make it a primary culprit of this worldwide
health crisis.

Sugar is a bigger health problem than just "empty calories" that make people fat. At the levels now consumed by most Americans, sugar changes metabolism, raises blood pressure, critically alters
the signaling of hormones and causes significant damage to the liver. These health hazards largely mirror the effects of drinking too much alcohol, which is essentially the distillation of sugar.

Worldwide consumption of sugar has tripled during the past 50 years and is viewed as a key cause of the obesity epidemic. But obesity may just be a marker
for the major health damage caused by the toxic effects of too much sugar. For example, 40 percent
of people with metabolic syndrome, the key metabolic changes that lead to diabetes, heart disease and cancer, are not necessarily clinically obese.

"There are good calories and bad calories, just as there are good fats and bad fats, good carbohydrates and bad carbohydrates," the researchers explained. "But sugar is toxic beyond its calories."

Limiting the consumption of sugar has challenges beyond educating people about its potential toxicity. "Changing these patterns is very complicated"

Effective interventions on environmental and community-wide solutions, similar to what has occurred with alcohol and tobacco, helps increase
the likelihood of success.

The researchers argue for society to shift away from high sugar consumption, the public must be better informed about the emerging science on sugar.

"There is an enormous gap between what we know from science and what we practice in reality," they added. "this issue needs to be recognized as a fundamental concern at the global level,"

The research was made possible with funding from UCSF's Clinical and Translational Science Institute, UCSF's National Institutes of Health-funded program that helps accelerate clinical and translational research.

Many of the interventions that have reduced alcohol and tobacco consumption can be models for helping address the sugar problem, such as levying special sales taxes, controlling access, and tightening licensing requirements on vending machines and snack bars that sell high sugar products in schools
and workplaces.

The team cautioned "We're not advocating a
major imposition of the government into people's lives. We're talking about gentle ways to make sugar consumption slightly less convenient, thereby moving people away from the concentrated dose. What we want is to actually increase people's choices by making foods that aren't loaded with sugar comparatively easier and cheaper to get."
